Through the Healthy Community Grant Program, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation is able to help local non-profit organizations in the White Rock and South Surrey areas to provide programs that support the health and wellness of our community. White Rock’s Avalon women’s Centre is one organization that has benefited from this funding, increasing the offering of childcare in their centre and allowing for more women to gain access to services without facing added childcare costs.

“We’re so grateful to Peace Arch Hospital Foundation for this opportunity to increase our childminding services to women in our community,” says Leanne Utendale, Centre Manager at Avalon Women’s Centre in White Rock.

“We know that this will remove a significant barrier for many women in addiction recovery, allowing them to regularly attend peer support meetings and strengthen their long-term recovery.”

Funding from this Healthy Community Grant program is already helping to provide childminding services at Avalon’s new Narcotics Anonymous Meeting, taking place on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. at the White Rock Centre.

“The Foundation is proud to support this important initiative for women recovering from addiction in White Rock and South Surrey. We are committed to supporting the overall health and wellness of our community and are glad to remove barriers to addiction recovery for women and their families.”
