White Rock, B.C. – A new AI-supported tool has arrived at Peace Arch Hospital (PAH)! As of March 2026, our site is equipped with the GI Genius system, a polyp detection system powered by artificial intelligence.

Twelve sites across Fraser Health, including PAH, are now equipped with this technology. GI Genius assists our endoscopy teams during colonoscopies by highlighting polyps in real time, providing an additional layer of support during the procedure.

Colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum) is the second leading cause of cancer death in men and the third most common cause of cancer death for women in Canada. According to Colorectal Cancer Canada, while rates are declining among older adults, diagnoses are increasing in younger adults.

The GI Genius system enhances colorectal cancer screening by improving the detection of precancerous polyps and lesions, supporting earlier intervention. While it does not replace the expertise of our physicians and medical teams, it serves as an additional tool to help identify areas that may require closer examination. In the photo above, the GI Genius is the blue device, showing the detection of unusual polyps and lesions in the green box on screen.

At Peace Arch Hospital, we are committed to providing the highest quality care for our community. When colorectal cancer is detected at its earliest stage, the chance of survival is greater than 90%. By helping identify potential abnormalities sooner, this technology supports earlier diagnosis and treatment.

We are grateful to offer this advanced technology to our community, helping our medical teams provide the best possible care.
