White Rock, B.C. – As part of Peace Arch Hospital + Community Health Foundation’s (PAHCHF) IMAGINE campaign to bring state-of-the-art medical imaging technologies to our community, Peace Arch Hospital (PAH) is set to receive a new MRI this year! While upgrades are underway, patients will continue to receive uninterrupted care from a mobile MRI now operating on our site.

In April 2026, the mobile MRI unit was installed in front of the former Emergency Department entrance. This temporary solution will operate for approximately six months, ensuring patients continue to have access to critical diagnostic imaging services while construction is underway.

The modernized MRI is expected to be operational in late 2026. To complete this upgrade, construction teams are rebuilding the MRI in-suite rather than replacing the machine entirely. PAH’s existing MRI machine will be refurbished, keeping its core magnet, while upgrading the surrounding technology to modern standards.

Designed with increased accessibility, flexible positioning options, and quicker scanning times, the new state-of-the-art equipment will serve 5-10% more patients than the previous unit, building on the 9,200 MRI scans conducted at PAH in 2025. MRI technology plays a crucial role in diagnosing and guiding treatment plans for conditions including cancers, heart disease, neurological conditions, and injuries.

“This significant upgrade means faster, more reliable diagnoses and a better care experience for people in White Rock and South Surrey,” said Dermot Kelly, President and CEO of Fraser Health. “By retaining the existing MRI magnet and modernizing the technology around it, we are bringing leading-edge imaging to the community in a way that is both efficient and environmentally responsible. I am grateful to our dedicated teams and partners whose support made this important improvement possible.”

This $4.95 million MRI upgrade was made possible through community members like you. As part of our $10 million IMAGINE campaign, your generosity helped bring this important project to life. For every person (like you) who may need imaging in their life one day, we are deeply grateful. Thank you for making these upgrades possible.

“During our IMAGINE campaign, our community came together to fund this essential upgrade for Peace Arch Hospital,” said Stephanie Beck, CEO of PAHCHF. “We’re deeply grateful to every donor because their contributions have made a meaningful difference. The arrival of the mobile MRI, with a permanent MRI arriving later this year, helps us continue to provide exceptional care to our community.”

Together, the mobile MRI unit, and eventually the new permanent MRI, represent a major step forward in delivering high-quality, modern care to our growing community.
