New medical equipment is always at the forefront of the Foundation’s fundraising efforts and back in 2016, the radiography department was the focus of the Peace Arch Hospital Gala’s Fund A Need auction. The goal was to raise $800,000 for a modern, state-of-the-art digital x-ray unit that would make a huge impact for both patients and x-ray technologists.

While a whopping $435,000 was raised by our very generous donors at the Gala, the remainder was funded by other equally generous philanthropists in the community.

We are thrilled to report that installation of the new x-ray unit was complete in late August and a special ribbon-cutting was held on October 12 for the major donors who contributed to this important new addition to the radiography department.

Features of the new unit include faster and improved image quality, a reduction in radiation exposure and a fully flexible set-up that comprises a ceiling-mounted x-ray tube to position around a patient, a stretcher or a wheelchair.

The radiology department performs 65,000 imaging exams per year. Since the new Digital X-Ray Unit was installed in late August, nearly 2,700 patients have been imaged over a two-month period compared to 2,500 during the same time last year.

“We are so grateful for these phenomenal donors who are so willing and engaged in making our hospital the best it can be with their philanthropy. Thank you to every single person who made this new equipment possible.”
