As I write this letter to you, I’m thinking of Family Day last month. To me, Family Day brings an appreciation of how our community feels just like family and how much we rely on, and take care of, each other. In particular, as we approach the Foundation’s year-end, I’m writing to ask for your help to buy new beds for 15 of our elderly care residents.

“By March 31 each year, the Foundation commits to raise $1 million to fund new and replacement medical equipment for Peace Arch Hospital — just like these beds badly needed in residential care.”

The decision to enter Residential Care is difficult and emotional for our residents and their families, so we take their physical, emotional, and spiritual care very much to heart. After all, these are our fathers and mothers, our neighbours – members of our local family – who have served our community for a lifetime. They have looked after us in many ways and now it’s our turn to look after them.

“It’s a huge responsibility and privilege to take care of our residents, and we do everything we can to keep them safe and to create a home environment.”

The right bed becomes an essential part of a care plan for people who can no longer look after themselves at home, and plays a critical role in their safety, mobility and independence. A bed often becomes the centre of their world.

The Stryker beds we’ve carefully chosen and tested offer features that support fall prevention, independent mobility, pressure relief for our residents, and ergonomic ease for our care workers:

  • Easy-to-reach, embedded controls and built-in nurse call bell
  • Integrated bed exit alarm and very low height adjustment for easy entry and exit
  • Built-in weigh scale
  • Integrated knee gatch system to minimize friction
  • Central lock and steer system
  • Light, rounded siderails ease exit and accommodate side tables
  • Under-bed nightlight for comforting night visibility
  • Attractive wood-grain finish for less-institutional appearance

Please help us to raise $75,000 — part of our $1 million commitment — to buy 15 new beds that can provide great comfort and safety.

From all of us here at the Foundation, thank you for your generosity and helping us to meet our fundraising commitment by March 31.
