This past June, ParticipACTION’s Community Challenge was in full swing, and White Rock was one of over 600 communities across Canada taking part. The Challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout the month of June, and is searching for Canada’s Most Active Community. With a variety of cash prizes to encourage friendly competition, and the summer sunshine as motivation, many residents stepped up to help boost our community’s standing.

We are proud to share that White Rock was named one of Canada’s Top 40 healthiest communities. This is out of over 600 communities! Courtesy of the City of White Rock, see the positive impact this challenge had on our community:

  • 15 organizations registered and tracked activities throughout June.
  • A total of 231 activities, programs, and events were tracked.
  • Participating organizations tracked a total of 55,588 participants (not unique).
  • 92 individuals pledged to get active.

White Rock took part in this challenge with the support of Move For Life (M4L), a national not-for-profit organization that brings community leaders together to drive a Physical Literacy for Communities initiative in the areas of education, recreation, sport, health, and media. As part of the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring our community is the healthiest possible, we have partnered with M4L on this Physical Literacy initiative.

This challenge is a sign that White Rock is becoming more physically literate and active, showcasing that people are truly working to live healthier lives.

“We believe that to effect change upstream and keep people out of the hospital, a healthy lifestyle is key. Peace Arch Hospital will always be here if you need it, but by committing to being as healthy as possible, hopefully you won’t. Together, we are building the healthiest community possible.”
