Out of this world appetizers and cocktails being served in true galactic style at Peace Arch Hospital Gala

The stars were aligned on Saturday, May 4 as donors and supporters of Peace Arch Hospital came out in full force at the Peace Arch Hospital Gala — 2019: A Space Odyssey, raising $882,000 for surgical care.

“May the fourth was a fantastic night for philanthropy,” said Stephanie Beck, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director. “With tonight’s proceeds, we have now reached nearly $8 million of our $12 million fundraising commitment to build five brand new surgical suites for our community. This gala was truly out of this world!”

The fundraising was kicked off with the announcement of a $100,000 gift from local philanthropists Vern and Helga Höing, who have now reached an incredible $2 million cumulative milestone of giving to Peace Arch Hospital. Also announced was a $1.5 million pledge towards the new operating suites recently made by the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society.

The Province’s Fred Lee lent his talents as the auctioneer and entertainment included Darth Vader and a Storm Trooper, an LED performance light show and a grand finale by a space opera Diva performing Evgenia Laguna from The Fifth Element.

Guests sipped cocktails in Spock’s Martian-tini Lounge, got some temporary ink at the Extra-Terrestrial Tattoo station, inhaled pure H20 at Captain Kirk’s Oxygen Bar and met Pepper, the robot, in our OR of the Future.

The evening was presented by Neil & Lisa Yarmoshuk, with support provided by Auction Sponsor – Leith Wheeler, Diamond Sponsors – Isle of Mann, Lark Group, Creative Kids Learning Centers and Westland Insurance, Platinum Sponsors – Lindsay Kenney LLP, DMCL and OpenRoad Auto Group, long-standing media sponsor – Peace Arch News, Venue Sponsor – The City of White Rock, along with many other generous local businesses.

The Peace Arch Hospital Gala 15-person steering committee, led by co-chairs Joelle Paleologou and Siobhan Philips, worked for nearly a year to prepare for the event and 100 volunteers lent their support event-night.
