Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Projects: Thank You for Using Cafe Express

Thank You for Using Cafe Express

The Emergency Department at Peace Arch Hospital sees an average of 165 patients per day. Unfortunately, this can mean long wait times of up to several hours for some patients. It is impossible to predict how long you will have to wait. How much time you spend here depends on how long it takes to see a doctor and what kinds of tests and treatments you need.

We try our best to make sure you are comfortable while you wait, like offering Cafe Express with complimentary beverages and snacks to those patients who are able and their families. This cart is generously provided by Peace Arch Hospital + Community Health Foundation and supported by donations from community members like you. Will you donate today to ensure we can continue providing these refreshments for patients and their families?

Thank you for your generosity!

Can I eat or drink before seeing an Emergency Doctor?

Do not drink anything if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Stomach pain or throwing up.
  • An injury to your arm or leg where it looks deformed.
  • Your heart is beating really fast.
  • DO NOT drink anything if we tell you that you might need a procedure or surgery.
    • You may have small sips of water.

If none of these apply to you, you can drink before seeing a doctor. If you are not sure, please ask an Emergency Department staff member before eating or drinking.

“I visited the Emergency Department due to persistent cough and chest discomfort, and I was truly impressed by the care I received. This visit reaffirmed how important our family donations to the hospital truly are. It’s clear that the funds are being put to great use, and we are proud to support our community hospital.”

We are looking for volunteers to help run our cart

Volunteering can help boost self-confidence, lower levels of stress, and foster a sense of purpose. Studies have shown that volunteering helps bring joy into people’s lives, while also improving their physical and mental health. Volunteering is also a great way to give back to your local community and make a difference, and it provides you with an opportunity to develop new skills, build on existing experience, and make new friends.

The cart rolls through the ER five days a week, with several 2-hour shifts each day. Fill out a volunteer application through Fraser Health.
