Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Projects: Help Improve Patient Food and Health Today

Help Improve Patient Food and Health Today

It’s no secret that for many patients and residents at Peace Arch Hospital, mealtimes are at times unappealing and to some not palatable. The food comes pre-made and frozen, then is reheated using a “retherm” oven. Bland, unappealing food leads to missed meals and slower recovery. And yet, this is what the hospital serves, three meals a day, every day of the year.

That’s why we’ve set a $5M fundraising goal as part of the Healing Starts Here campaign for upgraded food services and a new production kitchen. One that will replace outdated retherm meals with freshly prepared food that restores health, improves recovery times, and sustains the doctors, nurses, and staff who care for all of us.

This project isn’t just about upgrading equipment. It’s about delivering the kind of nourishment that helps people heal. March is Nutrition Month, and with your donation today, we can build a future where healing starts with every bite.

We are nearing our $5M goal and your gift will ensure that we meet this goal before the end of Nutrition Month. Will you consider supporting this campaign to revolutionize hospital food? The support of donors like you will make this new production kitchen a reality: a place that serves fresh, flavourful food designed to nourish patients’ bodies and spirits too! We couldn’t do this without you. Thank you for your generosity!

“Did you know approximately 1 in 2 Canadian adults admitted for more than two days are in a malnourished state. In-hospital decline in nutritional status or weight loss is associated with prolonged hospital stays and worse health outcomes, particularly in older adults.”
Dr. Pamela Thornton, Geriatric Medicine, Peace Arch Hospital

Choice & Dignity Restored

Patients will have choice in their meals, ordering from a menu, bringing a sense of control and comfort back to their hospital experience.

Patient-Centred Care

Personalized meals help staff build more meaningful connections with patients, reinforcing trust and compassion.

Vital Wellness Support

Our medical teams need healthy, energizing meals to stay sharp, focused, and resilient during long, high-stress shifts. The upgraded kitchen and cafeteria will ensure they have access to nutritious food when they need it most.

We hope you will join us in this mission to improve hospital food and touch the lives of so many in our community!
