Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Projects: Help us deliver the greatest gift this holiday: lifesaving equipment for the ER

Help us deliver the greatest gift this holiday: lifesaving equipment for the ER

Imagine spending time with cherished loved ones, opening presents by the fire, enjoying warm food and drinks, and suddenly falling ill. When you reach the Emergency Room, you are triaged and forced to wait in a crowded room for several hours. Is this how you imagine spending your holidays this year?

The Emergency Department at Peace Arch Hospital sees this every day, especially during this busy time of year when they treat an average of 165 patients per day. Whether it is a broken bone, concussion, respiratory illness, or other emergent medical condition, we need to be able to treat everything, and we need to be able to treat it FAST.

This holiday season, we invite you to join us in the spirit of giving. We urgently need to raise $210,000 to purchase new equipment for the Emergency Department. There is no better time to give than right now. Donna Dong, one of our long-time supporters, has generously agreed to match the first $50,000 we receive in donations towards new equipment for our Emergency Department. This means that your gift could have twice the impact if you give right now!

Your support is crucial. Will you join us in upgrading and replacing lifesaving equipment for the ER at Peace Arch Hospital? Your gift will make a lasting impact not only for the hospital, but also for the community we serve. Be the reason someone makes it home this holiday season. Thank you for your generosity!

Urgently Needed ER Equipment

Portable Ultrasound — $90,000

A portable ultrasound helps quickly assess and diagnose conditions without the need to transport the patient to another imaging area. It helps assess internal injuries, organ injuries, bleeding, ectopic pregnancies, and cardiac conditions. Its mobility allows for immediate bedside imaging, aiding medical staff in fast decision-making and timely treatment for critical patients.

Automatic CPR Machine — $20,000

A chest compressor is an automatic CPR machine, playing a critical role in performing high-quality, consistent chest compressions, ensuring they are deep, fast, and uninterrupted in a cardiac arrest situation. The Lucas 3 device gives our medical team the freedom to focus on advanced care, like airway management and defibrillation, while ensuring continuous CPR during patient transport — all with less strain and risk to staff.

Rapid Infuser Pump — $55,000

A rapid infuser pump helps quickly administer larges volumes of fluids or blood products to patients in critical condition, such as those experiencing shock or severe blood loss. It ensures fast and controlled fluid resuscitation, stabilizing the patient’s condition and supporting vital organ function. The blood the rapid infuser pumps sets the pace for reliable, high-speed delivery of warmed blood and fluids.

Cardiac Monitor — $28,000

A cardiac monitor helps continuously track a patient’s heart rate, rhythm, and electrical activity. It is used to detect abnormalities like arrhythmias, heart attacks, or other cardiac conditions, providing real-time data that guides diagnosis and treatment decisions. In an emergency department, a cardiac monitor helps rapidly detect life-threatening conditions, enabling timely interventions for immediate treatment.

Pinel Kits — $1,000 each (2 needed)

Pinel kits are needed in PAH’s Emergency Department to help immobilize and stabilize patients with suspected spinal injuries. They are critical for reducing the risk of further injury to the spine and stabilize the patient for safe movement and assessment.

Cystoscope Endoscope — $14,900

A cystoscope is a lighted rod that passes through the urethra for examination of the bladder and urinary tract. In the emergency department, it helps rapidly diagnose conditions like UTIs, bladder stones, tumours, and blood in the urine. It can also guide procedures like removing stones, taking biopsies, or draining abscesses, providing quick, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients.

“I visited the Emergency Department due to persistent cough and chest discomfort, and I was truly impressed by the care I received. This visit reaffirmed how important our family donations to the hospital truly are. It’s clear that the funds are being put to great use, and we are proud to support our community hospital.”
