White Rock, B.C. – Healthy communities don’t just happen… they are built by caring people who want to make a difference. That’s why Peace Arch Hospital Foundation (PAHF) created our Healthy Community Grant Program, which offers financial support for local initiatives and programs that enhance the health and wellness of the White Rock/South Surrey area. These programs are innovative, collaborative, and promote out-of-the-box thinking, such as Avalon Recovery Society.

Avalon Recovery Society is a pillar in our community. This initiative primarily aids women in addiction, which includes offering mental health services, trauma services, acupuncture and more. They also have a clothing closet and food pantry for individuals to use freely. What started as a 12-step program has now become so much more, offering comfort, support, and kindness to our community.

“We see, hear, and know the need in our community, so we continue to grow to help support as best as we can.” – Victoria Riley, Work Centre Manager at White Rock Avalon Recovery Centre

Approximately 85 individuals enter Avalon Recovery’s White Rock Centre every week to take part in their services. Their Centre is open 365 days a year, consistently providing support in our community whenever someone may need it. Their latest Peer Support program aids these walk-in clients by providing front-line support and counselling options. Along with the Peer Support Program, Avalon offers holistic approaches to wellness, helping individuals understand there is a why needing to be addressed behind the addiction.

Peace Arch Hospital Foundation is proud to support this impactful initiative for women recovering from addiction in White Rock and South Surrey. We are committed to supporting the overall health and wellness of our community and are grateful to help drive change.” – Amy Cross, Community Engagement Officer at PAHF
