Without our amazing community pitching in, we would never have been able to accomplish what we have today. Peace Arch Hospital is a true community hospital, having been built entirely on land that was either donated or purchased by the community. It opened its doors in 1954 with just 50 beds, five doctors and 10 nurses. Today, Peace Arch Hospital is one of 12 acute-care hospitals located within the Fraser Health Authority.

As the situation regarding COVID-19 continues to evolve, we know that our organization – and all other organizations and businesses in our community – are feeling the impact. While the majority of White Rock and South Surrey’s small businesses say they have already seen a dramatic drop in sales due to the economic effects of COVID-19, many have now gone into “survival mode” as they make the responsible decision to pause operations while they close-up shop to protect their staff and community.

White Rock and South Surrey is a community that so often has helped us, and we’re passionate about returning the favour. That’s why we want you to consider the many ways we can all support your local businesses during this time:

Purchase Goods and Services Online

Many local businesses are boosting their online or telephone sales platforms. Purchasing goods and services online can be a great way to help them out during this challenging time.

Looking to stay active? Purchase local studio Live Yoga’s unlimited online yoga classes for as little as $20/Month! In need of insurance? Local broker Schill Insurance is featuring online insurance renewal forms and transactions via phone and e-mail.

If you’re looking to spread cheer, Ocean Park Flowers and Ashberry & Logan are still all taking floral arrangement requests via phone and offering delivery services. Similarly, Malary’s Fashion Network is also offering roadside service during the hours from 12-4pm if customers call ahead to place orders. Finally, Crystal Theory Co. is offering distance energy-healing services and online shopping for crystal bracelets.

Businesses such as Live Yoga offer online products and services.

Buy a Gift Card or Support Businesses with a Positive Review Online

Countless local businesses such as Laura’s Coffee Corner, Madeline Bee Home StoreUmberto’s FlowersInnovative Fitness, Arthur Murray Franchise Dance Studio, and Gemini Visuals have temporarily paused business operations. To support businesses like these, you can purchase an online gift card, leave a positive review online (Google Review, Yelp, etc.) or follow them on social media to help increase sales and traffic upon re-opening.

Shop Locally for Food Items and other Essentials

Consider supporting small business owners who are working over time with short staff to support our community with food items and other essentials. In White Rock, Howes Market remains open for convenient access to groceries and other small necessities. Similarly, All Of Oils is offering free delivery for online orders of $25 or more within a 25km of their Surrey or Langley locations.

Cobs Bread Southpoint Annex and Semiahmoo is open during their regular business hours to serve as many people as they can. Everbean Café has limited their hours from 8am-3pm Monday to Friday to support the doctors, nurses and administrative staff in the Abby Lane building, however, they are also able to provide sustenance for people who need to visit the clinic, pharmacy and health centre.

Volunteer, Collaborate, Donate or Share Resources

It is during times like these that brings the community and local businesses together. If there are any opportunities to support one another, share resources, or collaborate in any way, please reach out to us or each other for help. Collaborations are what keeps our community afloat during hard times.

HIGHLIGHTS: Cobs Bread Southpoint Annex and Semiahmoo have generously offered free hot cross buns for all Peace Arch Hospital staff who are working hard on the front lines of our hospital right now. Other businesses have offered to share delivery services and hard-to-find supplies during this time. If you have a resource or service that may be of help to someone else, send us an email! Our team is available to help facilitate any collaboration ideas you might have.

Share Information with Small Business Owners

To support businesses and help prevent layoffs, the Government of Canada is proposing to provide a variety of subsidy programs. Sharing this information with local business owners can help them become aware of the different taxation-relief options available to them right now. Some of these programs include:
