Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Projects: Friends of the Foundation Awards

Friends of the Foundation Awards

Welcome to our virtual Friends of the Foundation Awards Event

Congratulations to our 2020 Health Care Heroes!

Peace Arch Hospital Foundation celebrates our donors and supporters each fall with Friends of the Foundation Awards presented at an event to honour award recipients.

With an event not possible this year, we chose five Health Care Heroes at Peace Arch Hospital who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic. These heroes were nominated by their peers for their dedication to and compassion for patients, their hospital, and the community.

2020 Health Care Hero Recipients

Kirsten Emley
Kirsten is Peace Arch Hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control Specialist whose leadership, guidance, and support was invaluable as she helped the entire hospital team manage the pandemic and keep patients and staff safe.

Alix Kite
Alix is a registered nurse and Clinical Nurse Educator in OR and did an exemplary job, working extra hours, and coordinating rapidly changing information while ensuring Peace Arch Hospital’s surgical suites were safe, organized, and ready to accept patients.

Megan Lum
Megan is a Clinical Nurse Educator in ER and demonstrated incredible strength, leadership, and courage while she navigated the rapidly changing protocols in the emergency department. She spent countless hours beyond her work day ensuring the safety of staff and patients. Her optimism and calm influence never wavered.

Resham Mushiana
Resham is a cleaner in the rehabilitation unit and kept the entire space spotless, adhering to pandemic protocols while cleaning, decluttering, and organizing. She is part of the rehab family and the team is so grateful for her attention to detail and can-do attitude.

Jenn Walker
Jenn is Peace Arch Hospital’s Manager of Volunteer Resources and was instrumental in facilitating the food delivery program for staff. Her numerous treks throughout the hospital campus delivering food and treats were so appreciated by staff. Her work is often behind the scenes and isn’t always glamourous, but helping others is her specialty.

We also awarded two Community Health Care Hero Awards to local businesses who stepped up with unwavering support:

everbean cafe and community

Everbean Cafe
Everbean started a community fundraiser at the start of the pandemic (which is still ongoing!) for Peace Arch Hospital staff, delivering donated meals and treats to hardworking front line heroes. They also participated in the food delivery program, ensuring our medical staff was well fed and nourished. They are a small local business trying to stay afloat during these challenging times while also giving back to their community.

the carvery sandwich shop

The Carvery Sandwich Shop
The Carvery was one of the first restaurants to donate food to Peace Arch Hospital staff and they consistently went above and beyond with their giving, challenging other restaurants to do the same. They initiated their own Go Fund Me to raise the funds needed to feed our health care staff while supporting other local businesses and hospitals in the Lower Mainland. It became a full-time job to coordinate the donations of local restaurants and have meals delivered daily to Peace Arch. The Carvery’s efforts inspired so many businesses to participate, not only in their program, but in delivering meals directly to the hospital.

A special thanks to all the incredible nominees and the well-deserving recipients, along with Presenting Sponsor, TD, for their contributions to Peace Arch Hospital!
