Monday, October 22, 2018

Peace Arch Hospital Foundation held its 12th Annual Great Pumpkin Run Walk on Sunday, October 21, raising $40,000 for the new Generations Playground. The event has raised nearly $700,000 for health care since its inception in 2007.

“Mother Nature blessed us again this year with sunny skies” said Stephanie Beck, Peace Arch Hospital Foundation’s Executive Director. “It was a little foggy in the morning but that didn’t deter our caring and generous community from coming out early on a Sunday morning to support our vision of making White Rock and South Surrey the healthiest community possible.”

The participants, many in costume, ran or walked the 5K and 1K routes that started and ended at Bayview Park on Marine Drive in White Rock. Back this year were the popular pancake breakfast, kids’ activities and lively fairgrounds packed with vendors handing out free samples of tricks and treats.

Global TV Meteorologist and local resident, Mark Madryga once again served as event emcee and local performer Richard Tichelman led the crowd with Canada’s national anthem.

This year’s top youth fundraiser was Molly Dove, who raised $975 and the top adult fundraiser was Shelley Jackson, who raised 1,405. Top fundraising teams were Live Well Exercise Clinic which raised $4,150 and the Peace Arch Hospital Cardiac Rehab team, raising $3,582.

The top male runner on the 5K route was Tyler Wilson with a time of 18:05 and the top 5K female runner was Maya Kobylansky with a time of 19:30. The top male and female cardiac rehab patient participants were David Hercun and Marie Antonation. Connor Nicol was the first youth to complete the 5K race while Ben Lister was the first youth to cross the finish line on the 1K route.
