Under brilliant sunny skies, Peace Arch Hospital & Community Health Foundation held its 10th Annual National Bank Financial Great Pumpkin Run Walk on Sunday, October 30, raising nearly $90,000 for Peace Arch Hospital’s ER, with donations still coming in. Close to 1,500 participants, many in costume, headed to Bayview Park to run and walk the 5K and 1K race routes that started and finished at the beach. The 10th anniversary celebration included a pancake breakfast, an interactive kids’ zone with bouncy castles and mini golf and the 907 Black Knights Air Cadet Squadron marching band. The event was supported by more than 125 volunteers including a cross-section of hospital employees, members of the community and many local high school students.

Global TV Meteorologist and local resident, Mark Madryga was back as event emcee. Since its inception, the event has raised close to $550,000 for priority medical equipment and site upgrades for Peace Arch Hospital.

This year’s top youth fundraiser was four-year-old Molly Dove and the top adult fundraiser was Douglas Horvath. Top fundraising teams were White Rock Optometry which raised $14,956 and the Peace Arch Hospital Cardiac Rehab team, raising $16,670.

The top male runner on the 5K route was Joe Scali who crossed the finish line at 21 minutes and 11 seconds and the top 5K female runner was Kasandra Harriman who came in at 22:03. The top cardiac rehab patient participant was Brent Baynton with a time of 29:25. Michael Giles, 12, was the first youth to complete the 5K race while 11-year-old Grayson Beck was the first youth to cross the finish line on the 1K route.

“This was truly our best Run Walk event yet,” said Foundation Executive Director, Stephanie Beck. “In addition to the spectacular weather, it seemed like the entire community came out to support their ER and celebrate our 10th anniversary with us. As we near the finish line of our ER fundraising campaign, we are so appreciative of our sponsors, participants, donors, fairground vendors and incredible volunteers, all of whom make this event possible.”
